AA Meetings and NA Meetings in Long Beach

  • Alcoholics Anonymous (commonly known as AA) is arguably the most widely known treatment associated with overcoming an addiction or chemical dependency. For decades, AA meetings have supported countless women and men overcome their dependence upon alcohol and begin (or continue) their quest of lifelong recovery.
  • Narcotics Anonymous (NA) – There is not a concentration on one certain drug. Instead, the purpose of NA is to discuss the hard times and victories that come with drug addiction and recovery.

NA is a 12 step program very close to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and it offers many of the same foundations, tactics, and theories. The intention of NA is to cultivate an environment where substance abusers assist each other on the road to healing. Sessions include men and women of every demographic and at varying degrees of recovery, from many years to just a couple days of being clean.

    Connection Between Addiction and Dual-Diagnosis

Lots of folks diagnosed with a substance use disorder (SUD) also endure a co-occurring mental health or behavioral disorder. This is known as a dual diagnosis. Individuals with a dual diagnosis require an integrated treatment plan that addresses both ailments as linked mental health issues.

Common mental health disorders associated with drug abuse include the disorders below:

    • ADHD – Many individuals are prescribed stimulants to address their ADHD, which may be addictive and create a toxic pattern of chemical abuse.
Depression – Many people identified as having depression try to self-medicate with illegal drugs or alcohol. This routinely makes the disorder worse. The crash after the high can be terrible for those with a pre-existing depressive condition.
    • Bipolar Disorder – Roughly fifty percent of people diagnosed with bipolar disorder also deal with addiction. As with any other disorder, it can be attractive to self-medicate. Alcohol and drugs offer a moment of temporary relief from mental challenges and manic instances for people with bipolar.
    • PTSD – When someone develops post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) their brain creates less endorphins than a healthy brain, making them more likely to turn to alcohol or drugs to feel happy.
    • Borderline Personality Disorder – Research studies have shown that drug addiction and borderline personality disorder
    • (BPD) oftentimes materialize together. Over two-thirds of individuals with BPD have turned toward drug abuse at some point in their lives.
    • OCD – Persons with OCD routinely endure anxiety and depression caused by their uncontrolled behavior, which can bring about drugs or alcohol.
    • Eating Disorder – Eating disorders often derive from powerful thoughts of inferiority. Drugs that eliminate hunger are especially prevalent among individuals dealing with these disorders.
    • Generalized Anxiety Disorder – The most typical mental ailment in the U.S., generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) impairs 18 percent of adults. Men and women who experience GAD may be more likely to turn to drugs or alcohol to manage their issues. People may also use benzodiazepines, which are highly addictive pharmaceutical pills prescribed to address anxiety problems.
    • Schizophrenia – Schizophrenia is identified by hallucinations and delusional thoughts. Identifying schizophrenia in addition to an addiction can be tough because both problems share the same effects.

    Drug and Psychological Dependence

Most professionals or materials that refer to mental dependence are talking about the cognitive and emotional components of addictive habits or the withdrawal period from drugs or alcohol rather than attempting to identify certain substances or activities as being psychologically addictive or physically addictive. The conditions associated with the psychological components of addictive behaviors or with psychological dependence are usually classified as:

    • Uncontrolled desire for the drug
    • Issues with stress and anxiety that materialize when someone makes an effort to put an end to their addictive conduct
    • Concerns with depression when a person is not using their substance of choice or tries to discontinue their addictive behavior
    • Irritation and trouble sleeping that occur when an individual is not using their favorite drug or making an effort to kick the habit
    • Any other problems with mood swings that appear when one is not using their preferred drug or attempting to quit
    • Appetite loss or increased appetite accompanied by not using the preferred drug

More Info About Long Beach NY

    Long Beach, New York

Long Beach is a city in Nassau County, New York, United States. Just south of Long Island, it is on Long Beach Barrier Island, which is the westernmost of the outer barrier islands off Long Island's South Shore. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city population was 33,275. It was incorporated in 1922,[3] and is nicknamed The City By the Sea (as seen in Latin on its official seal). The city of Long Beach is surrounded by Reynolds Channel to the north, east and west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. As of January 1, 2018, Michael Tangney is the acting city manager, a position appointed by the city council. It has been Democratic for years.[4]

Long Beach's first inhabitants were the Algonquian-speaking Rockaway Indians, who sold the area to English colonists in 1643. While the barrier island was used by baymen and farmers, for fishing and harvesting salt hay, no one lived there year-round for more than two centuries.
