- ADHD – Many people are given stimulants to manage their ADHD, which may be addictive and lead to a dangerous habit of substance abuse.
Depression – Some individuals suffering from depression attempt to self-medicate with drugs or alcohol. This in many cases makes the disorder even worse. The come-down after the high can be terrible for those with a pre-existing depressive problem. - Bipolar Disorder – Approximately one-half of people diagnosed with bipolar disorder also have a problem with addiction. As with any other disorder, it can be tempting to self-medicate. Drugs and alcohol offer a moment of temporary relief from emotional situations and manic episodes for people with bipolar.
- PTSD – When an individual develops post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) their brain manufactures less endorphins than a normal brain, making them more likely to seek the help of alcohol or drugs to be happy.
- Borderline Personality Disorder – Studies have suggested that substance addiction and borderline personality disorder
- (BPD) commonly transpire together. Over two-thirds of people with BPD have turned toward drug abuse at some time in their lives.
- OCD – People with OCD commonly deal with anxiety and depression because of their uncontrolled conduct, which can turn them to drug abuse.
- Eating Disorder – Eating disorders often derive from powerful thoughts of inferiority. Drugs that eliminate appetite are especially prevalent among individuals struggling with these disorders.
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder – The most typical mental affliction in the USA, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) affects eighteen percent of the adult population. Individuals who suffer from GAD might be more likely to turn to drugs and alcohol to control their symptoms. Individuals may also abuse benzodiazepines, which are extremely addictive prescription medications used to treat anxiety problems.
- Schizophrenia – Schizophrenia is characterized by hallucinations and delusional thinking. Diagnosing schizophrenia along with an addiction can be tricky because both issues share the same effects.

More Info About Smithtown NY
Smithtown, New York
Smithtown originally, known as "Smithfield",[citation needed] was first settled around 1665. Local legend has it that, after rescuing a Native American chief's abducted daughter, Richard Smith was told that the chief would grant title to all of the land Smith could encircle in one day "on a bull". Smith chose to ride the bull on the longest day of the year (summer solstice), to enable him to ride longer "in one day". The land he acquired in this way is said to approximate the current town's location. There is a large anatomically correct[4] statue of Smith's bull, known as Whisper, at the fork of Jericho Turnpike (New York State Route 25) and St. Johnland Road (New York State Route 25A).[5]
The border between Smithtown and the town of Huntington is partially defined by Bread and Cheese Hollow Road (Suffolk County Road 4), so named after Bread and Cheese hollow, which according to legend is where Smith stopped on his ride to have a lunch of bread and cheese. The road is reputed to follow part of his original ride. The border between Smithtown and Huntington was also the site of Fort Salonga, a British fort that was the site of a battle of the American Revolution during 1781.[6][7]
