    Connection Between Addiction and Dual-Diagnosis

Lots of people diagnosed with a substance use disorder (SUD) also suffer from a co-occurring cognitive health or behavioral disorder. This is known as a dual diagnosis. People with a dual diagnosis require an integrated recovery program that deals with the two ailments as interconnected mental health issues.

Prevalent mental health disorders identified with drug abuse consist of the disorders below:

    • ADHD – Many individuals are prescribed stimulants to manage their ADHD, which may be habit-forming and create a toxic pattern of chemical abuse.
Depression – Some people identified as having depression try to self-medicate with illegal drugs or alcohol. This oftentimes makes the mental state worse. The plunge after the high can be terrible for those with a pre-existing depressive health issue.
    • Bipolar Disorder – Approximately fifty percent of people diagnosed with bipolar disorder also have a problem with addiction. As with any other mental health disorder, it can be appealing to self-medicate. Drugs and alcohol offer a moment of short-lived relief from mental challenges and manic incidents for people with bipolar.
    • PTSD – When someone develops post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) their brain generates fewer endorphins than a healthy brain, making them more likely to seek the help of alcohol or drugs to be happy.
    • Borderline Personality Disorder – Research studies have discovered that drug addiction and borderline personality disorder
    • (BPD) in many cases transpire together. Over two-thirds of individuals with BPD have turned toward drug abuse at some point in their lives.
    • OCD – Individuals with OCD often endure anxiety and depression as a result of their uncontrolled tendencies, which can lead to drug abuse.
    • Eating Disorder – Eating disorders often derive from powerful thoughts of inferiority. Medications that decrease hunger are especially prevalent among individuals with these disorders.
    • Generalized Anxiety Disorder – The most prevalent mental affliction in the USA, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) impacts eighteen percent of the adult population. People who deal with GAD might be more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol to control their issues. People may also use benzodiazepines, which are highly addictive prescription medications used to treat anxiety disorders.
    • Schizophrenia – Schizophrenia is identified by hallucinations and delusional thinking. Diagnosing schizophrenia parallel to an addiction can be tricky because both ailments share similar effects.

    Psychological Dependence and Addiction

Most people or materials that refer to psychological addiction are talking about the cognitive and emotional facets of addictive actions or the withdrawal period from drugs or alcohol in contrast to trying to group particular substances or activities as being mentally addictive or physically addictive. More Info About Poughkeepsie NY

    Poughkeepsie, New York

Poughkeepsie (/pəˈkɪpsi/ pə-KIP-see), officially the City of Poughkeepsie, is a city in the state of New York, United States, which is the county seat of Dutchess County. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 32,736.[3] Poughkeepsie is in the Hudson Valley midway between New York City and Albany, and is part of the New York metropolitan area.[4][5] The name derives from a word in the Wappinger language, roughly U-puku-ipi-sing,[6] meaning "the reed-covered lodge by the little-water place", referring to a spring or stream feeding into the Hudson River south of the present downtown area.[7]

Poughkeepsie is known[by whom?] as "The Queen City of the Hudson". It was settled in the 17th century by the Dutch and became New York's second capital shortly after the American Revolution. It was chartered as a city in 1854. Major bridges in the city include the Walkway over the Hudson, a former railroad bridge (originally called the Poughkeepsie Bridge), which re-opened as a public walkway on October 3, 2009; and the Mid-Hudson Bridge, a major thoroughfare built in 1930 that carries U.S. Route 44 (concurrent with State Route 55) over the Hudson. The city of Poughkeepsie lies in New York's 18th congressional district.[8]
